Welcome to Mayhew's!

A Brief History of MAYHEW'S

When most people aged 70 were actively involved in retirement, Ken Mayhew chose to begin a new business
with his son Doug and daughter-in-law Diana. Mayhew’s Perma-Plants Ltd. was incorporated on May 24th 1985.
In twenty years, the Company now known as Mayhew’s Wholesale has blossomed into a major importer and
wholesaler with customers across Canada.

The three partner’s original intentions were to import artificial plants and trees and to sell them to wholesales across the country.
Ken was well known in the Orient as he had founded a Company named Mafco Imports in the late 1960's, Mafco standing for
M
ayhew Artificial Flower Company. Ken sold Mafco in the 1980’s and entered into a comfortable retirement. The only problem for
him was that he became bored and missed the floral life… thus Mayhew’s was born. Ken and wife Dean had been continuously active
in the floral business since 1943 - the only other exception was when Ken volunteered for active duty overseas during World War II.

Doug and Diana took over active management of the Company after two years of learning the business from Ken. During that time,
two new partners had come on board… Reg & Anna-Mae Hendry. Reg & Anna-Mae brought with them years of sales and
production expertise from working at Mafco. They became Mayhew’s first Sales & Production Managers.

Having four Managers for the Company allowed Ken the luxury of doing what he loved best, creating beautiful things. He worked
full-time and over-time at the Company for almost ten years, during which he saw his son and daughter-in-law create steady growth
by introducing lines other than plants and trees. For this reason, Mayhew's Perma-Plants became known as Mayhew's Wholesale.

Christmas decorations are now a major part of the Company as are exclusive artificial flower and plant lines. Doug and Diana registered
the Company's trademark, Nature's Image
â internationally. They also introduced Berdestoneâ frost-proof home & garden décor
pieces along with other items such as wrought iron furniture and exquisite containers.

Reg and Anna-Mae retired and sold back their shares in the Company in 1995. Ken remains a Director. He’ll turn
90 in February 2005 and has retired (again) from the floral business that he loves so much. He and wife Dean spend
their days tending their garden and looking after their cat.  (There’s always the possibility that Ken may be
planning another business for his grandchildren!)
